Price trends for stainless steel alloy surcharges – May 2026
Stay updated on stainless steel alloy surcharge trends for May 2026. Insights on market stability, Middle East conflict impact, and steel price evolution.
The upward trend in alloy surcharges for various grades of stainless steel, which began at the start of the year, has continued over the last three months. The conflict in the Middle East may have had some influence, but this is not specifically linked to this phenomenon, given that the sources of these materials (chromium and nickel) are not located in these conflict zones. However, there has been a slight levelling off compared with the previous month.

Steel prices have remained stable, although there was a slight rebound in April (+2%). This remains linked to low demand and continuing overcapacity. Consumption has not rebounded as was anticipated at the start of the year. This may also be a consequence of the conflict in the Middle East.
